Queen Elizabeth National Park

What a beautiful place to visit Queen Elizabeth National Park is!

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the most beautiful protected areas nestled in the heart of Uganda in the Western region.

It is believed to be the second largest after Murchison Falls National Park and it covers an area of 1,978 square kilometers. It neighbours other protected areas like Kibale Forest National Park, Kyambura Wildlife Reserve and Kalinzu Forest Reserve.

In other words, the park is home to numerous wildlife and beautiful sceneries for example, it harbours over 95 mammal species and 600 bird species.

Despite the above, Queen Elizabeth National Park is divided into five sectors each sector with its attraction namely, the Ishasha sector well known for the rare tree-climbing lions, Kyambura Gorge for great Apes the chimpanzees,  Mweya peninsula which is home to large herds of elephants and Banded mongooses, The Northeast Escarpment then finally the Rift valley Escarpment.

Furthermore, choosing to visit this protected area you will never be disappointed due to the numerous activities one can carry out as a result of the many attractions. For instance, a game drive brings closer to most of the interesting wild animals such as larger herds of elephants, buffaloes, and the rare tree-climbing lions in the Ishasha sector spot them hunting, feeding from up in the tree or meet them resting during the road. Boat cruise is another amazing activity one should not miss while on a safari to Queen Elizabeth National Park.

This activity leads to other animals that base and spend their time on water like hippos, crocodiles, monitor lizards and many more.

During this adventure, you can also capture a chance to record as many water bird species as possible which may include black crakes, kingfishers, vultures, Eagles, ducks, ibis, hammerkop and others.

Uganda is believed to have two primate ape species namely the Gorillas and chimpanzees. Chimpanzees can trek from different corridors in Uganda though best in Kibale Forest National Park which harbours the largest number of these primates.

However, you can also trek chimpanzees on your safari to Queen Elizabeth National in the Kyambura Gorge sector and spend time with them watching how brilliant they are, what makes them be considered as our next relatives, how they play mostly juveniles, infants with their mothers and many interesting things. Remember taking photos with no lights is allowed and recording videos during this activity.

Apart from the above-mentioned ones you can still opt to do bird watching and record as many birds as you can to expand your checklist.  The nature walk is another memorable adventure in Queen Elizabeth National Park whereby you can spot different primates like black and white colobus monkeys, and varvet monkeys, which are the smallest and quickest monkeys in Uganda.

There are two seasons throughout the year in Uganda that is; the rainy season which is normally from September to early December and from March to May then the dry season which starts from December to February and June to July. Every season has its advantages and disadvantages though we normally advise those planning for a safari to always travel during the dry season when all the roads and trails are passable giving easy access and spot much compared to the rainy season when most of the roads are muddy. Still, most of the lodges offer discounts which is its advantage.

Lastly for the best of your Uganda safari, remember to carry binoculars to help you view distant objects, cameras to capture photos for remembrance while back home, good hiking shoes since you will able to meet some sharp hills mostly during trekking, enough energy giving snacks like cookies, biscuits, sweets finally the bach pack to keep your equipment safe.
