Overview.
This gorilla tour has been curated to enable adventure seeking travellers realize their dream of getting close to the endangered mountain gorillas in their natural habitat. The three days will ensure that travelers have satisfying experiences in the heart of Africa exploring Kigali city.
Travellers will further have encounters with the local Rwandan citizens at Iby’iwacu cultural village. The entertainment and folklore told by the elders of the society at the cultural village get travellers excited.
Guests will have the opportunity to marvel at the breathtaking Virunga volcanoes that are ideal for sightseeing and photography.
Detailed itinerary.
Day 1. City tour. Head to Volcanoes National Park.
Have breakfast at the hotel in Kigali. After breakfast, you will then undertake a city exploration in the morning. This trip will take you to the most exciting tourist centers in the city. You will visit the Kigali genocide museum where you will have insights into the history of the country.
Visit the Inema art center to set your eyes on appealing artifacts and also purchase souvenirs that will act as memoirs of this exciting safari.
Undertake the journey back to the hotel and have lunch. After lunch, you will then embark on the transfer journey to Volcanoes National Park which will take you about 2 hours and 30 minutes covering the 105 kilometer distance.
Check in at the lodging facility upon arrival in the park and enjoy the views of the towering Virunga massif from your premises. Dinner will be served at twilight and you will have enough time rest.
Day 2. Gorilla trekking, Iby’iwacu cultural village.
The guests will be served breakfast in the wee hours of the morning. You will then travel to the headquarters of the National Park where you will meet the Rangers who will brief you about the exciting gorilla trekking activity you are yet to have. They will let you know about the guidelines of the activity.
The Rangers will then accompany you to the forest to trek the endangered mountain gorillas. This activity may take you about four to five hours and after you will travel back to the lodge to have lunch.
After lunch, you will continue to explore the National Park and visit the Iby’iwacu cultural village in its outskirts. At the village, you will interact with the local Rwandese who will entertain you and tell you more about their ways of life. This activity will keep you occupied until sunset when you travel back to the lodge to have dinner and relax for the night.
Day 3. Twin lakes tour.
After you’ve had a morning meal at the lodge, you will undertake an exploration of the Twin Lakes of Burera and Ruhondo. They are renowned for their breathtaking views and they offer the best sightseeing experiences in the park.
Enjoy the activities the entire morning and transfer back to the lodge at around midday. You will get served lunch after which you will undertake the journey back to Kigali.
This will take you about 2 hours and 30 minutes covering the 105 kilometre distance. On arrival in Kigali, you will continue to the airport to get on board for the flights back home.
